Overall, service and resort are eccelent, but food is not on par witgh the reest of experience. Ingredients quality on some dishes is very low, drinks dont have all neccesary components in them and in tyhe end viariety is also limited as there are 6 restaurants but only 2 are open for lunch.

Staff was very well pleasing.

The room was disgusting. Stains and dirt ( looks like blood)on towels and sheets, toilet wasn't cleaned properly. I complained the moment I went to the room. I had to checkout after 1 night and after agreeing to give me a refund for the remaining 2 nights; they are now refusing to do so when ******* contacts them... I will not stop until i receive the full refund for the nights I didn't stay

The staff is second to none. Soo many amazing people that treat you like family and remember your name from day 1. The grounds were impecable and cleaned daily. Restaurants were usual all inclusive style but the staff again was great in each. Willi, Micheal, samira and all the pool waiters, and entertainment staff... we will truly miss you all. You make this resort special

Property in major need of repairs, noticeable wear and tear and dirty rooms, poor air conditioning, quality of service is average at best and food and beverage options are lacking with most bars or restaurants often out of food or drinks listed on menus. After staying at other Excellence resorts, the El Carmen does not live up to the Excellence brand. I would not reccomend staying at this location.

Wow!!!! Picture are misleading. Probably is 8 years old and not we’ll keep up at all! Rooms are filthy and are only cleaned if you only ask when checking in. Human fluids are all over the furniture. Mattress has blood stains. Main pool area under construction. Most restaurants are not open. Food was disappointing and discussing. I had to buy food from next door restaurant. Management is a joke. It appears that their approach is to waste your by listening and not doing anything about your issues. One management member told me not to stay in my room “just go outside”. Even though I paid for one the best rooms they have. There is point to pay for exclusive club because I had to beg for upgrade liquor that was supposed to unlimited. This place for younger people ( newly married ) thats their first vacation and are just happy to be on a beach and drink cheap liquor for free thinking that’s what 5 star hotel feels and looks like. Do not go here! ******* had done nothing about this! I would not use them again!

I am happy I didn’t trust the bad reviews on this property or the DR in general. I am guessing the people who wrote those reviews grew up with a silver spoon. If you are looking for a pretentious resort where there is zero culture, stay in the US. If you are looking for a great experience in a new place where people are friendly, then definitely visit the DR. The property itself was beautiful. From the moment we arrived we were greeted by friendly staff and amenities such as a cool towel and a welcome drink. We were not part of the excellence club and that was fine by me. Our room had a private pool, private jacuzzi tub for two and a fully stocked mini bar (included). We also had a bottle of wine waiting for us as we are ******* VIP members. Everything was clean. The review complaining about the pool cleaners was ridiculous. Yes they came around everyday so the pool would be perfect but they were clearly there to clean the pool and not to peep in the windows. There are curtains if it really bothers you that much. The entertainment was fun! The Michael Jackson and Queen impressionists were spot on. The only reason I gave the resort four stars was due to the food quality. The buffet food could be cold at times. We went to the grill for lunch and the food wasn’t great. However, we had steak for dinner and it was good. Basmati was delicious. Beach was absolutely beautiful! Yes there was some sea**** one day. It’s the ocean so if you can’t take sea**** don’t go. Overall, excellent
