The property itself is nice. Our room was clean, quiet, and comfortable. The grounds and surrounding area are beautiful. Unfortunately, the staff is either short handed, undertrained, or both. The check in process took longer than it should have and dinner service at the onsite restaurant, The Ruddy Duck, was the slowest I have ever experienced at any restaurant anywhere. Staff were apologetic to all the tables, but that did little to make up for the appallingly slow and inadequate service, especially given the price and a**osphere. It appears that they need more training, more staffing, and someone at the helm organizing and overseeing service. The trouble started when my partner and I were seated and it took over 30 minutes to be acknowledged by a server. A simple, dinner (two entrees and a glass of wine) turned into a nearly 2.5 hour ordeal. During our wait, the sun went down, the mosquitoes came out, and my partner gave up twice returning to our room to get work done until the food arrived. We contemplated leaving twice, but with few other dinner options in the immediate area, we stuck it out - a mistake on our part. With an effective management team, this place could be excellent, but as it is now, the restaurant especially offers a frustrating experience. Ultimately, I wish I’d stayed at the Best Western in town instead.
We came here to rehab for a night after a particularly rough camping trip and ultimately just wished we’d stayed outside one more night.
