My husband and I recently stayed for one week at Sau Bay Dive Resort and it was WONDERFUL! We began with the flight from Nadi to Taveuni, which is breathtaking! As Sau Bay is remote and only reachable by boat, even getting there was an adventure. Once we arrived, we were greeted by the staff welcoming us in Fijian song, which was great. Sau Bay Dive Resort is a small, oceanfront compound with 5 separate bures that can comfortably accommodate a total of maybe 12-15 people. We stayed in one of the one bedroom bures "Saqa" and it was lovely. There were other divers staying there at the time and we quickly made friends and diving companions. However, we never dove with more than 5 other guests, which makes for super enjoyable dives! The reefs were gorgeous and respected. We were thrilled to be able to dive the Rainbow Reef several times and also the "White Wall" - a bucket list dive for us. We rented their good dive gear and the dive masters, Lotu and Carl, were friendly and very professional. They were always ready to help in any way. There are different dive packages that include meals - we chose the "Mega Dive" package and dove 7 times over 3 days. We could have opted for more diving, but, as first timers to Fiji, we wanted to experience other adventures as well. And we did! The visit to a local village by boat was a lovely experience that we will never forget, especially when the young school kids sang to us. Sau Bay arranged the visit. Another day trip was back to visit the Tavoro Waterfalls, where we joyfully hiked to and swam in 3 (chilly) waterfalls, lead by a great local guide named Ajmat. Then we stopped to ride the natural Waitavala Water Slide, along with some young Fijian kids, who helped show us the ropes. Afterwards, we made a brief stop at the International Dateline for some photo ops. A great way to top off any day at Sau Bay Resort is a delicious meal and glass of wine at the Bula Bar, where you are served by the incomparable Lui and Kasa, who are just two exceptional members of the extraordinary staff. And don't pass up a massage by Charlotte, who has magical hands! And say yes to participating in the traditional kava ceremony if it's offered - you will sleep well afterwards. I could ramble on about Sau Bay, but suffice it to say that is was a lovely and memorable introduction to Fiji. It would be SO ideal for a small group of divers or a family reunion and I sincerely hope to arrange that in the future. Great memories guaranteed! Vinaka!
