鑽石屋文化遺址餐廳及汽車旅館(Diamond House Heritage Restaurant and Motor Inn)

Stawell’s Diamond House Heritage Restaurant & Motor Inn is an excellent alternative to staying at Halls Gap and is only 20 minutes from the Grampians. My wife and I stayed one night only to break the trip from Adelaide to Ocean Grove. Diamond House is an attractive rustic heritage establishment from 1868. The owner (or manager), Dave, is a likable Yorkshireman with a good sense of humour. Ben, the friendly restaurant host, delivers excellent meals. The Bush Dust Kangaroo served with Mashed Potato and Vegetables is very tasty, and the Confit Mint Lamb Shank served with Creamy Mash was also excellent. Both meals at $30 each represent good value. Wines are very reasonably priced. We recommend the Shiraz for both meals. We intend to stay on our next trip to Stawell.

On arrival I was requested to show my Australian Govt COVID VAX Certificate. I have no issue with that request, as I have shown it many times since arriving into VIC from SA. I use the cert stored in my Apple wallet as haven’t had opportunity to download onto my new acquires VIC QR app. I was met with ‘that’s not legal or good enough’ I tried to download the cert onto the app on the spot but it took some time. In the meantime the waiter was extremely rude and shouted over me. After he started arguing we decided to leave. The owner was also very rude as we left. I have never felt so bullyied by hospitality staff before. Every place we visited in past 2 days accepted my Apple wallet certificate, so I am perplexed to say the least

This motel is very conveniently located but is also very quiet. My room was of a generous size and had everything that I needed. This place is excellent value and will be top of my list when I'm looking for accommodation in the area.

Dave & Wendy are the most amazing hosts! Wendy’s beautiful warm smile and friendly demeanour is like receiving a warm hug on a cold winters day! Dave, absolutely is hilarious and very reminiscent of visiting an Australian version of Faulty Towers (The TV show) but in the best possible way! Dave’s cooking is also sensational and the Coriander Prawns served with Coriander ice cream ( one of many dishes on the menu) is beyond compare! If you’re looking for a unique experience while travelling through Victoria, you won’t be disappointed! Top notch!
