Our stay at Distinction was a last minute side trip during a three week visit to NZ. The location is on the outskirts of town on the river. The desk and restaurant staff were friendly and helpful. The grounds and interior common areas are worn and in need of an update. The hallway of our building had a musty smell. Fortunately, our room was clean and seems to have had a recent update. If we return to Whangarei, we would look for a hotel in town so that we could be closer to restaurant, shopping, and other activities.

Lovely property with great staff. Excellent location across the bridge from Town Basin - lovely location.

Absolutely no kitchen facility. An electric kettle, a selection of tea, coffee, sugar, and ONLY ONE teaspoon. The room was for 3 people but there were only two coffee mugs and two glasses. Twin beds in the living room, not a separate bedroom. Those people had to pass through the bedroom to access the bathroom. One sliding door off it's railing. NZ motels usual provide a small carton of milk.

If I had to be slightly critical I would suggest the colour decor needs a face lift to brighten the whole place up. Otherwise a nice pleasent stay Nga Mihi
