We were looking forward to staying here as from the outside the building looks full of history and character, if not spectacular. Also, we knew the Sex Pistols stayed here in the 70s so we found that a pull too. Being honest we weren't expecting a grandiose experience as having been in the bar area before and found it to be decent with nice staff but appearing a little tired and lacking in TLC, we prepared for an average stay. We stayed here for one night and found the price of £100 for B&B to be decent (cheaper than Premier Inn at the time of booking and bags more character). The lady on reception, the manager/owner, I think, was pleasant and welcoming and we were impressed with the pictures, ornaments and features of the hotel. Also, it was all very clean, but as I said earlier there was a tired feel to the decor. The hotel could do with some money spending on it to bring it up to scratch but I understand money is hard to come by these days and I'm sure it's enough of a struggle just to stay open. Our room had a lovely view of Chapel Street with the fantastic Egyptian building across the road to look at. The room was spotlessly clean and everything worked well with the shower very warm. We found the mattress to be very soft and springy which wasn't to our liking, but everyone's different. I had toast for breakfast which was fine. I also had a pot of coffee which I have to say wasn't the best I've had. Overall then, we had an enjoyable stay here and would happily stay again for the odd night. There is a lot of potential here if some money could be spent on the hotel.
