It's alright.

I was honestly disappointed at this hostel. The room smelled bad and the bed was uncomfortable, not enough many showers and toilets, shower pressure was bad and you could hear everything through the walls. Also it was cold in the room (there was a heater but it was very old and smelled like burned). Also definitely not the most social hostel. During my stay there was some sort of school groups taking over the common kitchen areas for their meetings and meals even though we are all paying to use any kitchen we want. Wifi was a joke. Only good thing was the good location in the center.

Nice, big hostel with courtyard, good communal area and piano! Well situated and lots of helpful information available. I had a bunk in the all female 7 bed dorm. Room was light and airy, had a sofa and the bed was comfy.

1. Have to pay for wifi 2. Numerous people in communal areas making noise during late hours 3. Kitchen closes at peak hours for cleaning. 4. Day rate to pay one you have checked out. As all travellers, we are not in control of the bus time and being kicked out of the hostel unless we paid a $12.50 per person day rate. 5. Passive aggressive manager. 6. Have to pay for lockers that are not very secure 7. Guard on bed broke and spoke to management and they did not do anything or really care. All the beds in the room sounded and felt like they would not last for must longer too. We have travelling for 3 months in Australia and 1 month for New Zealand and have been in many YHA hostels among other hostels and never had this kind of unwelcoming service. None of this was advertised on the booking. As someone who is travelling I do not leave any reviews usually but I really felt like it was required with this place. It may be cheap but do not stay in this hostel!

Great hosts, tidy clean rooms and great kitchen facilities. Central so close to all of the shops, restaurants and supermarkets. Lots of information available about activities you can do in Nelson. We checked out at 10am but didn't fly out till 5, we were able to have our luggage stored securely during the day.

For two consecutive years we have used this backpackers/motel as a place to get back between tramps in the region. The facilities in Central Nelson are of great value for money and kept immaculately clean. The staff is very helpful and able to point out great spots to eat, arranging taxi rides and flexible when bookings changed due to unforeseen circumstances. This is a quiet place to live and sleep. While we were away we were able to leave our luggage in their store room at no extra charges. The showers had plenty of hot water and towels were provided for free. There is a roomy kitchen and a lovely lounge room, and fresh bread is provided on a daily basis. And due to its vicinity to town there is plenty of good eateries within walking distance from the accommodation. We were thankful being able to get a discounted taxi fare to the airport through the motel reception. When back in Nelson we will certainly know where to come to to get a good nights sleep at great service and a very fair price. Thank you very much Royce

We sandwiched a trip to the Abel Tasman National Park with a night either end at YHA Nelson. Our ensuite room was clean, comfortable and very reasonably priced and we appreciated being able to store unneeded luggage while we were away. Lots of good eateries within walking distance but if you want to self-cater there is a large and well equipped shared kitchen. The hosts were very welcoming and helpful. Take up their offer to book your taxi to the airport - the subsequent discount on the fare was a nice little end to our holiday!

Me and my partner stayed here for 3 nights during our road trip and thoroughly enjoyed our stay here! Royce and Linda were very welcoming, informative and made us feel at home here. The hostel had a great atmosphere, was well organized, clean and had a modern feel to it. The location is ideal as it's close to the city center and has lots of cafe's, bars and shops surrounding it. I'm sure we will be staying here again on our next visit and would highly recommend others to do the same! Thanks again Royce and Linda 😁

The bed was uncomfortable and the room was very hot with inadequate ventilation. There was a bad smell in the hallway and when we complained to the owner he and his wife went out of their way to be rude and difficult. I would not recommend staying here if you'd like to be treated kindly as a guest
