Visiting Japan for the first time we knew we wanted to stay at a Ryokan. This was not cheap by any means but it was worth every penny. It’s located in a walking alley in the Higashiyama area and has a low key serene entrance. Your shoes are checked in at the door and suitcase wheels are cleaned & delivered to your room. The staff are incredibly friendly and attentive. The room had a calm and relaxing ambiance with lovely amenities such as free higher end hot & cold drinks, beautiful hand painted tea cups and coffee cups, and a ton of bathroom amenities. You definitely felt spoiled. The rooms had Yukatas for us (and they found a smaller one for my 10 yr old son). *this is a very quiet ryokan and would not recommend for little kids. We loved changing into the yukatas for dinner and winding down in the library area for snacks & drinks. They also provided very comfy, quality adult pajamas which felt so lush after a cedar bath. Included in our 2 night stay was the amazing Kaiseki 8 course dinner personally made by the chef as we ate. The presentation and taste was outstanding - be sure to make your dinner reservations in advance. Breakfast was also included and prepared by him. We were blown away by this whole experience and it was definitely the highlight of our 3 week vacation.
