I’d stayed here twice before and was delighted. This time I brought two other couples but was disgusted to find that, not only had the inn been sold, it had been sold to an investor who lives 90 miles away. Breakfasts are no longer the gourmet delights that Ruth had prepared; they are “continental style,” which means prepackaged waffle “bites,” day-old, cut melons, stale pastries, bread that you get to heat in a disgustingly dirty toaster (like the disgustingly dirty microwave), all offered up by a grumpy, disheveled guy who is clearly cynical about the whole arrangement. Everything was dusty, the shower curtain was mouldy, and not much is being kept up. Check-in would’ve been confusing, since there was no one there to greet us, except that I called the owner before arrival to arrange to pay for my friends; that’s when I found out that you now basically check yourself in and have to find your way around. I was quite embarrassed to have recommended this place to my friends. No way is the new owner going to get repeat business the way he is running things! At any rate, he won’t get mine.
