冰川美景酒店(Glacier View Motel - Franz Josef)

Travelling solo, from overseas , it's important to keep in touch, that's not going to happen at the glacier view motel. No phone signal, advertised WiFi not while I was there apparently being repaird somewhere up the road. Tv remote didn't work, the input bitten had been glued so you couldn't use the chromecast if I had wifi/phone signal. A very dated set up, I would spend a little more money and find somewhere a bit more comfortable.

Central location in Franz Josef township within easy walking distance to restaurants and town services. A clean and comfortable motel with good wifi. Management (?Anthony) pleasant and helpful, nothing a problem. Very good value for money.

The lady couldn’t understand us , spoke hardly any english , room was unclean and alive with biting insects , shower cold so didn’t bother, anyone with kids beware there is a walking space where they tip all their grass cuttings , a shear drop there so bad for kids

This motel is definitely not 4 star, 1.5 at best. Room was really musty and smelly, TV did not work and check in was "the key is in the door". The shower did not drain, so we were ankle deep in suds and water. It was not good and we left a day early as one night was more than enough.

It’s not 5 star, but the staff was great. The place quiet and clean. The sleep was comfortable. It’s exactly what a good motel should be.

NO HOT WATER! Management did nothing, offered a 50% discount on our NEXT STAY, as if we are coming back to a horrible motel in a place thousands of miles from home. I wasn't expecting luxury accomodations, but I was expecting HOT WATER. The wifi also never worked, which wouldn't have been a big deal if there was decent cell service but there isn't. Management just apologized and did nothing. I would not be surprised if they saw we were from the US and deliberately put us in the room with the broken water heater since they knew we weren't going to be repeat customers. The laundry they say they have on their website also "doesn't work well" we were told at check-in but the management would put laundry in the washer / dryer they use for the towels. The hand soap in the rooms was so watered down we didn't even realize it was soap. The rooms were clean but the beds were hard.

Very easy check in and check out instructions as per my conversation with the manager the previous day. It's an amazing location with a wonderful view of the snow topped mountains.

I'm not fond of being unkind to struggling a business, & this one is struggling, we were 1 of only 2 units occupied that night. Smelled a bit, the blurb in the room claimed it was their brand of sanitizer & suggested keeping windows open to lessen the odour! A bit out of town, kettle didn't work so used the microwave, toaster didn't work either! Chinese lady at reception was pleasant, but spoke no english, so very hard to recommend the welcome albeit cordial. Hard to recommend anything really, sorry.
